The government of West Bengal is set to formalize an agreement with the central government on September 28 to establish an airport in Purulia district, as part of the UDAN scheme, according to Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari. This development is poised to enhance the region’s air connectivity and bolster its tourism and industrial sectors.
Preparations for the new airport have reached completion, and the state has applied for the necessary licenses, Adhikari confirmed. Discussions with representatives from civil aviation authorities have also been conducted to advance the project.
The establishment of the airport is expected to be a catalyst for economic growth in Purulia, with the government actively pursuing investments in various sectors. Key areas of interest include defense, steel, cement, and solar energy, which could collectively attract investments nearing ₹1 lakh crore within the next year, according to Adhikari.
By improving infrastructure and connectivity, the new airport aims to make Purulia a more attractive destination for tourists and industrial investors alike, potentially transforming the district’s economic landscape.
