Scientists Link Gut Health and Inflammation to Increased Heart Attack Risk

-

Heart attacks are not solely the result of high cholesterol or blocked arteries, as many might think. Health experts emphasize a broader array of contributing factors, including chronic inflammation, poor gut health, stress, insufficient sleep, and unhealthy lifestyle choices, which can gradually elevate the risk of heart disease.

Cardiologists point out the close connection between the gut and heart health. An imbalance in the gut microbiome can lead to inflammation within the body, impacting blood vessels, blood sugar levels, hormones, and overall cardiovascular health. This silent inflammation may cause gradual arterial damage long before any symptoms manifest.

Experts note that factors such as consuming processed foods, exposure to environmental toxins, pollution, chronic stress, smoking, alcohol consumption, and inadequate sleep can disrupt gut bacteria and upset the body’s natural equilibrium. Over time, these disturbances may lead to metabolic disorders and heighten the risk of heart-related issues.

To maintain heart health, it is critical to look beyond just cholesterol management. Physicians advise adopting a holistic approach to wellness, which includes improving diet quality, reducing stress, engaging in regular physical activity, ensuring adequate sleep, and supporting gut health with a diet rich in fresh, fiber-laden foods.

Health professionals assert that nurturing the gut can also safeguard the heart, as both organs collaborate to sustain overall body function. By focusing on gut health as part of a comprehensive wellness strategy, individuals can better protect their cardiovascular health.
