Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta has announced the launch of the “Namo Yamuna” ferry service on the Yamuna River, scheduled just days before the Chhath Puja festivities from November 13 to 16. The initiative aims to enhance the experience of visitors partaking in the traditional celebrations at Sur Ghat, which is being transformed into a family-friendly picnic spot along the riverbank.
The ferry service will offer a one-hour cruise between Sonia Vihar and Jagatpur, covering a distance of approximately five kilometers. Passengers will have the opportunity to enjoy scenic views of the ghats and surrounding natural landscapes. Ticket prices are expected to be around ₹500 per person, according to government officials.
The vessel, named Island Boats 40 (IB 40), is a 40-foot catamaran-style boat designed by Mumbai-based Inspiration Marine Pvt Ltd to navigate the river’s shallow stretches. The ferry’s infrastructure includes boarding facilities, ticket counters, and waiting areas to accommodate passengers.
Originally set to launch on February 20, the ferry service was postponed due to incomplete project work. CM Gupta recently inspected the vessel at Sonia Vihar Sports Club and assessed the development progress at Sur Ghat, ensuring readiness for the upcoming Chhath Puja celebrations.
