India and Denmark are set to deepen their strategic partnership with a focus on green energy, trade, and sustainable maritime development. During a visit to Mumbai and New Delhi on November 2–3, Denmark’s Business Minister Martin Lidegaard engaged in discussions with Indian government officials and business leaders to explore economic cooperation opportunities. This visit underscores Denmark’s commitment to supporting India’s transition to a more sustainable economy.
The two nations are preparing to advance their Green Strategic Partnership, initially established in 2020, by developing a joint action plan aimed at strengthening ties in areas of mutual economic and environmental interest. In Mumbai, Minister Lidegaard toured facilities operated by APM Terminals, part of the Danish shipping conglomerate Maersk, and discussed investment prospects with Maharashtra Governor Jishnu Dev Varma.
In New Delhi, talks with Commerce Minister Piyush Goyal centered on expanding bilateral trade and enhancing economic relations, specifically in light of the proposed India-European Union free trade agreement. Currently, over 200 Danish companies are operating in India, providing employment for more than 100,000 people across various sectors.
The discussions also focused on sustainable maritime development. Meetings with Union Ports and Shipping Minister Sarbananda Sonowal addressed environmentally friendly shipping, modern port infrastructure, and the establishment of green maritime corridors. Cooperation in renewable energy was another significant topic, with discussions with Renewable Energy Minister Pralhad Joshi focusing on improving energy efficiency and strengthening clean energy infrastructure.
Denmark, a key international partner in solar energy development, also contributes to the International Solar Alliance, promoting broader cooperation in renewable energy. The enhanced partnership between India and Denmark is expected to foster new opportunities for investment, technological exchange, and sustainable development, while deepening economic ties between the two countries.
