In a significant move, the Delhi government is set to launch a comprehensive welfare and infrastructure initiative named Sewa Sankalp Abhiyan, beginning on September 17. Chief Minister Rekha Gupta revealed the month-long campaign on Monday, which is designed to commemorate Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s 25 years in public service. The initiative aims to kickstart and lay the foundation for projects valued at approximately ₹13,800 crore throughout the national capital.
The campaign will encompass a variety of community-focused activities, including blood donation camps and health check-ups for senior citizens. Efforts to improve sanitation and clean the Yamuna River will also be a key focus, alongside registration camps aimed at increasing access to government welfare programs across all 70 assembly constituencies. One of the highlights on September 17 is a mega blood donation camp with an ambitious goal to collect 2,500 units of blood. Additionally, the government plans to advocate for organ donation and hold health camps specifically for the elderly.
A substantial portion of the campaign’s budget, amounting to ₹8,000 crore, is earmarked for projects related to the Yamuna River. Furthermore, over 4,000 Anganwadi and ASHA workers will be recognized for their contributions during the campaign. The initiative also plans to engage students and the youth, organizing activities in approximately 5,000 schools. These will include painting and speech competitions, along with an innovation challenge that encourages young minds to develop ideas for a developed India.
The projects set to be launched or initiated during this campaign are diverse, with investments spanning several sectors. The Delhi Jal Board is expected to see projects worth ₹8,000 crore, while the Public Works Department (PWD) will undertake ventures totaling ₹2,800 crore. Additionally, the power sector will benefit from initiatives amounting to ₹1,500 crore, with irrigation and flood-control projects receiving ₹365 crore. Tourism projects are also on the agenda with a planned investment of ₹77 crore.
