PM Modi Meeting Sought by Putin Amid Jaishankar’s Moscow Visit

-

During a recent meeting at the Kremlin, Russian President Vladimir Putin conveyed his hopes for an upcoming meeting with Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi. The occasion was marked by the visit of India’s External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar to Moscow, where he engaged in discussions aimed at enhancing bilateral relations. Putin expressed his desire for the meeting with Modi to occur in the context of the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation, and he is also anticipated to travel to New Delhi for the BRICS leaders’ summit slated for September.

Putin emphasized the strengthening trade ties between Russia and India, noting a significant increase in the supply of fertilizers from Moscow to India, with potential for further expansion. This growing economic cooperation reflects a broader trend of collaboration between the two nations, underscoring the importance of their strategic partnership.

In a separate engagement, Jaishankar met with Russian First Deputy Prime Minister Denis Manturov to discuss ways to enhance bilateral trade and economic collaboration. One of the topics highlighted was the potential for Russia to localize nuclear fuel production within India, signaling a deepening of industrial cooperation between the two countries.

Jaishankar’s visit to Moscow also includes scheduled talks with Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov. These discussions are expected to cover a range of issues, including bilateral ties and significant regional and global developments, as both nations seek to navigate the complex geopolitical landscape.
