The Shri Ram Janmabhoomi Trust has accepted the resignations of its General Secretary, Champat Rai, and trustee Anil Mishra amid an ongoing probe into allegations of embezzling funds meant for the construction of the Ram Mandir. Trust treasurer Govind Giri confirmed that the resignations were in line with the organization’s constitutional procedures. While announcing the decision, Giri acknowledged the significant contributions Champat Rai has made to the trust since its founding.
These resignations follow accusations of financial irregularities during the counting of temple donations, an issue that has raised serious concerns within the trust. Senior member Pankaj Jaiswal expressed deep regret over the situation, describing it as both painful and shameful, and emphasized that any theft involving the contributions of devotees is completely unacceptable.
In the wake of these developments, the trust has appointed Krisha Mohan as the interim General Secretary, while Govind Giri will continue to serve as the treasurer. The trust is scheduled to reconvene on July 22, by which time the Special Investigation Team (SIT) is expected to deliver its final report. Giri has assured that the trust will not shield anyone found guilty of wrongdoing, stressing that all individuals implicated must face legal consequences, irrespective of their standing within the organization.
As the investigation unfolds, eight individuals have already been taken into custody in connection with the alleged theft of donations. The trust remains committed to addressing these allegations thoroughly, with the investigation still in progress to ensure accountability and transparency.
