Quantum Machines Integrates NVIDIA CUDA-Q, NVQLink for Simplified Quantum Programming

Quantum Machines has unveiled a pioneering integration that allows the execution of an NVIDIA CUDA-Q program across live quantum bits (qubits) and a classical PPU processor via NVIDIA’s NVQLink. This integration marks a significant step forward in the development of hybrid quantum-classical applications. By merging Quantum Machines’ advanced quantum control technology with NVIDIA’s CUDA-Q open platform and NVQLink architecture, the demonstration showcases a high-speed connection between quantum controllers and accelerated computing systems, enabling developers to craft quantum applications using languages like Python, C++, or QUA without needing to manually create low-level control sequences.

This breakthrough in unified quantum-classical computing was demonstrated with code written in CUDA-Q, executed through Quantum Machines’ control stack, linking quantum processors, GPUs, and CPUs. The system intelligently allocates different segments of a workload to the most suitable processor, with NVIDIA NVQLink facilitating rapid communication between quantum and classical computing elements. Impressively, the entire exchange was completed in about one microsecond. The technology is currently being exhibited at IEEE Quantum Week in Toronto, allowing researchers and engineers to witness the system in action with live quantum hardware.

“Quantum Machines has been collaborating closely with NVIDIA for a long time, and we are thrilled to see these technologies and tools come together to empower quantum developers,” remarked Yonatan Cohen, CTO of Quantum Machines. He emphasized the potential for these advancements to accelerate the development of large-scale quantum computers. By integrating NVIDIA NVQLink into their Quantum Machines Orchestration Platform, the company has effectively connected qubit-controlling hardware with NVIDIA’s accelerated computing systems through a low-latency link.

The integration aims to simplify the traditionally complex programming required for quantum processors, making them function more seamlessly alongside CPUs and GPUs as part of a comprehensive computing system. “Quantum processors become transformative when they work closely with GPUs and CPUs as a unified quantum supercomputing system,” explained Sam Stanwyck, Director of Quantum Product at NVIDIA. When developers utilize CUDA-Q, quantum operations occur on the QPU, while classical processing can be handled by CPUs and GPUs in real time. The control system from Quantum Machines translates these operations into precisely timed signals to manage and measure qubits.

This low-latency connection is crucial for workloads that necessitate swift interaction between quantum and classical processors, such as quantum error correction and other sophisticated quantum computing tasks. By enabling the rapid exchange of measurement data and processing decisions, the development supports future applications that require real-time quantum-classical coordination. Quantum Machines and NVIDIA continue to enhance these low-latency connections, striving to make quantum computing more accessible and scalable.
