Opsio, a Swedish company specializing in cloud and artificial intelligence solutions, has unveiled PrismIQ, an automated visual inspection service aimed at real-time defect detection in manufacturing processes. The service makes its commercial debut in India, with plans for a broader international launch. PrismIQ employs industrial cameras alongside deep-learning models tailored to specific manufacturers’ products, detecting issues like surface defects, cracks, contamination, dimensional discrepancies, and assembly errors as they occur on production lines.
The inspection service utilizes edge hardware installed directly on production lines, enabling rapid processing of inspection results and reducing reliance on manual inspections. Furthermore, the system’s data can be integrated with existing programmable logic controllers (PLC) and supervisory control and data acquisition (SCADA) systems to facilitate automated sorting and decision-making on production lines. Opsio emphasizes that the platform addresses the limitations of manual inspection, particularly on high-speed lines where inspecting every product is challenging. The system’s active-learning feature continuously refines detection models using production data.
Unlike traditional vision software, PrismIQ is delivered as a comprehensive service, covering all aspects from camera, lens, and lighting configuration to model development, factory integration, and ongoing operations. It also encompasses operator training, quality monitoring through dashboards, and regular performance evaluations. Opsio states that from the initial feasibility assessment to full deployment, a typical implementation takes around eight to twelve weeks.
The initial launch in India is strategic, given the country’s rapidly expanding manufacturing sector and Opsio’s established presence, including an AI Lab in Bengaluru focused on developing industrial AI solutions. PrismIQ is currently available for manufacturers in sectors such as automotive, electronics, food and beverage, and pharmaceuticals. The process begins with a feasibility study and proof-of-concept using the manufacturer’s product samples. Daniel Hedlund, Chairman of Opsio, highlighted India’s manufacturing growth and its potential for global competitiveness through enhanced quality. Meanwhile, Praveena Shenoy, Opsio India’s Country Manager, expressed confidence that automated inspection will enable manufacturers to identify defects sooner and enhance quality control.
