Prime Minister Narendra Modi emphasized India’s commitment to addressing climate change during his speech at the International Conference on “The Future of Environment and Climate Dynamics” in New Delhi. He highlighted that India’s per capita carbon emissions are significantly lower than the global average, countering the perception that developing countries are major contributors to global emissions.
Modi pointed out that India has made substantial progress in renewable energy, having met its Paris Agreement targets ahead of schedule. The country’s efforts in expanding non-fossil fuel capacity and solar energy were also underscored as part of its broader environmental strategy.
The conference, organized by the National Green Tribunal and taking place on September 19 and 20, convenes a diverse group of participants, including judges, government officials, and environmental experts from India and abroad. The event aims to address pressing environmental and climate issues, with a focus on policy implementation gaps, environmental justice, and institutional cooperation.
Throughout the two-day event, four technical sessions are scheduled to explore key challenges and develop strategies for future climate action. The discussions are expected to pave the way for more robust approaches to environmental governance and sustainability.
