Google has introduced its Gemini in Chrome artificial intelligence features to Android users in India, integrating AI-powered assistance directly into the Chrome browser. This expansion allows users to perform tasks such as summarizing webpages, connecting information across Google services like Gmail and Calendar, and generating images directly within the browser.
Gemini in Chrome is designed to function as an AI assistant, offering a range of capabilities that enhance user interaction with the web. One of its standout features, auto-browse, is available for both desktop and Android devices and is offered to Google AI Pro and Google AI Ultra subscribers in India. This feature enables the AI to navigate websites and complete certain tasks on behalf of users, simplifying complex, multi-step web activities.
Through the auto-browse feature, Gemini can manage tasks such as comparing products, finding deals, booking event tickets, making restaurant reservations, and scheduling appointments. It essentially streamlines activities that typically require navigating multiple webpages and completing several actions manually.
To ensure user safety, Google has implemented safeguards within Gemini to mitigate potential risks associated with AI browsing. The system is designed to detect threats such as prompt-injection attempts, and users may be prompted to confirm sensitive actions before they are executed. These measures are crucial when AI systems have the capability to make changes, submit forms, or conduct transactions on a user’s behalf.
The number of multi-step tasks that can be performed via the auto-browse feature is contingent on the user’s Google AI subscription. Google AI Pro subscribers have the capacity for up to 20 multi-step requests per day, while Google AI Ultra subscribers can execute up to 200 requests daily.
With this development, Google is enhancing the agentic capabilities of AI within Chrome, allowing users to leverage AI for task completion across the web, moving beyond simple information queries to more interactive and functional uses.
