India-Japan Partnership Strengthens Indo-Pacific Stability and Global Economic Cooperation: Jaishankar

-

External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar has emphasized that the India-Japan partnership plays a crucial role in maintaining strategic stability and ensuring a free and open Indo-Pacific region. Speaking at the India-Japan Indo-Pacific Forum in New Delhi, he said both countries share a “larger responsibility” as major democracies and maritime powers to promote regional stability and economic resilience.
Jaishankar highlighted that the partnership has significantly deepened over the decades, contributing not only to Indo-Pacific security but also to the global economy. He stressed the need for collaboration in critical sectors such as artificial intelligence, semiconductors, clean energy, space, and critical minerals to build stronger and more reliable supply chains.
He noted Japan’s co-leadership in the Indo-Pacific Oceans Initiative, particularly in maritime trade, transport, and connectivity, as a key example of practical cooperation. The minister also pointed to recent high-level engagements, including Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s discussions with Japanese Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi and the adoption of a long-term joint vision for the next decade.
Jaishankar cited several new initiatives—such as the Next Generation Mobility Partnership, Economic Security Initiative, and the Joint Declaration on Clean Hydrogen and Ammonia—as signs of an expanding and future-oriented India-Japan relationship. He added that increased people-to-people exchanges and human resource cooperation will further solidify these strategic ties.
