Trump Drops the Hammer: 50% EU Tariffs and iPhone Threats Signal End of Negotiations

-

President Trump has taken a dramatic turn in his trade policy, announcing a sweeping 50% tariff on all European Union imports starting June 1. Frustrated by what he called fruitless negotiations, Trump declared he would no longer wait for a deal, opting instead for immediate, unilateral action.
The tech sector is also in the crosshairs, with Trump threatening a minimum 25% tariff on imported iPhones unless Apple moves manufacturing to the United States. The president’s warning extends to other smartphone brands, signaling a major shakeup for global tech supply chains.
This hardline stance comes after a brief pause in tariff escalation last month. Despite efforts by Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent to jumpstart talks, Trump made it clear he’s “not looking for a deal,” preferring to set new tariff rates without further negotiation.
