The Sugar-Fat-Inflammation Cycle: How 3 Foods Damage Your Liver

A gastroenterologist is explaining the vicious cycle of sugar, fat, and inflammation that damages the liver, and how three food groups perpetuate it. It starts with sugary drinks. The doctor calls them “liquid poison” because the high fructose kicks off the cycle by forcing the liver to create fat. This leads to the second stage: fat accumulation. This is exacerbated by deep-fried foods, which add more unhealthy fat directly to the liver. This buildup of fat within liver cells then triggers the third stage: inflammation. This inflammatory state is further fueled by ultra-processed foods, which contribute more bad fats and sugars while also disrupting the gut, leading to more inflammation. This cycle can eventually lead to serious liver scarring. The doctor’s advice is to break the cycle by eliminating these three food groups.
